A study of electrostatic discharge on MR heads in digital tape systems

In helical-scan digital tape systems, the MR head is brought into contact with the tape surface without a protective coating. In this paper, we study electrostatic discharge when the MR heads make contact with the charged tapes in terms of tape surface resitance and the electrostatic charge on the tape.
