A unique framework of assembly design combining tolerance and regression analysis

Innovative product development has become highly demanding and challenging in the current era. Products are getting more sophisticated with time and it is indispensable to be extremely heedful as far as product variation assessment is concerned. In order to develop a quality product right for the first time, it is imperative to calculate variation early at the design stage. This very fact is highly important for gear based precise assemblies as gears possess a dynamic feature towards rotation. For such a precise rotation, at first there is a need to determine the significant variation contributor, and afterwards it is mandatory to verify the impact of variation. Tons of literature has been published on tolerancing and its effects on assemblies yet there is lack of research regarding practical implementation and validation of tolerancing. In this research, a novel idea of tolerance simulation along with its merger with regression analysis has been presented. The results of the tolerance simulation have further been processed and a relationship has been developed for rotational accuracy assessment. Proposed idea would open new doors of combining tolerancing and regression analysis vis-a-vis many industrial applications.
