Accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) of heavy elements (M>or approximately=40)

The extension of AMS techniques (accelerator mass spectrometry) to the heavy elements is considered, particularly with reference to the use of small tandem accelerators (VT<3 MV), and a comparison with thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS) is discussed briefly.
