The rapid expansion in recent years of theoretical and empirical research in applications of learning theory has not been matched to the same extent by a growing awareness and interest of social work practitioners. Fischer’s (1974) ‘quiet revolution’ has not, in the British context at least, gained in vigour. Later in this chapter, we shall consider some of the reasons for this.
