A Novel Strategy for the Reliable Joining of Ti6Al4V/2A12-T4 Dissimilar Alloys via Friction Melt-Bonded Spot Welding

Abstract This study used an unconventional friction melt-bonded spot welding (FMSW) to improve the mechanical performance of dissimilar Ti/Al joints. The temperature, microstructure, and mechanical properties were investigated. Results showed that FMSW was a suitable method to form nanoscale Al 3 Ti at Ti/Al interface. The maximum tensile shear load of joints reached 18.2 kN.
