The strength of nickel reinforced with tungsten fibers

1971
1. The vacuum rolling of nickel containing tungsten fibers has been studied. The degree to which the compression on one pass affects the nature of the deformation and the fracture of the fibers has been determined. A compact sheet material based on nickel reinforced by tungsten fibers has been obtained. 2. The characteristics of the strength and plasticity of the composite on elongation have been studied as a function of its composition and temperature. It is shown that the greatest strength of the composite (50 kg/mm2) is reached over the temperature range 350–400°C.
