Study of SPR peak shifting of silver nanoparticles with change in surrounding medium

Abstract Herein, the silver NPs are synthesized via chemical reduction method using NaBH4 (sodiumborohydride) and AgNO3 solution. The synthesis of the silver NPs and the phenomena of SPR were monitored by UV–Visible spectroscopy. The size of the synthesized nanoparticles is found to be around 30 nm. The experimental results are further matched with the theoretical Mie fitting results. It was further analyzed that when the n (refractive index) of the solvent medium was changed, there is shifting in the SPR peak. In the present study, water, ethanol and DMSO were chosen as solvents. Experimental results showed that shifting of the SPR peak depends upon the refractive index of the medium. The experimental results are well matched with the Mie model simulations.
