Calidad de los diseños de proyectos de construcción. Caso de estudio: Gobiernos Autónomos Descentralizados de Chimborazo

Construction projects fulfill a life cycle in which we find stages such as the design which, with an adequate intervention, can lead us to a more affordable building stage. To do that, nowadays new philosophies and methods, that allow for reducing errors and improving the quality of a design, are implemented. A deficient design arises problems like cost increase, delays and even jeopardize the project success. In Ecuador, no research allows us to know the quality of the construction projects’ designs also though there are unfinished projects for these reasons. In the present study 16, construction projects were evaluated within the bidding processes in autonomous governments from Chimborazo which enabled us to determine the quality of the designs by applying four indicators which were as follows: information requests, requirements modification, expense deviation, and deadline deviation. This information is useful for design clients to evaluate the quality of the service acquired and the contracted designers’ compliance.
