KONFLIK PEREMPUAN JAWA YANG MASIH MELAJANG DI MASA DEWASA MADYA

2010
Beside single lives’ positive and negative aspects, there are several reasons for individuals to remain single. However, society expects women to many rather than to remain single. Javanese women’s conflict is due to their parents’ ultimate cultural duty to take their children into marriage. Children show their respect to their parents by helping them fulfill their life-task. Being single becomes dilemmatic for Javanese women, even if they choose to remain single to take care of the family. The research was held in Surakarta by using interview technique toward 6 single women, aged 40 and beyond. Based on the research, all participants want to many in order to fulfill their parents’ hope. Participants were hoping not to get any pressures due to their single hood. They all try to be more realistic due to their age and to continue their life.
