High resolution neutron resonance spectroscopy

2008
Neutron resonance spectroscopy in the MeV region at the Geel Linac is described. The first measurements performed with 1 ns burst width and a 400 m flight path done on 207Pb, demonstrate the available resolution. The general purpose of these measurements are nuclear structure studies. Two examples are discussed. For 207Pb, on which measurements have recently been started, the aim is the search for the expected fragmented giant magnetic dipole resonance1. Measurements on 28Si have been concluded last year. Here the emphasis is on the location of a T=3/2 level and the determination of its isobaric spin impurity.
