Causes and frequency of failures on gas mains in the USSR

Analysis of the causes of failure in gas pipelines forms a basis for enhancing their reliability and providing solutions to the problems of protecting th environment. In particular, the analysis of failures in underwater gas pipelines is gaining in importance because these repairs require considerable time and labour. This paper describes the causes and frequency of failures of gas mains for the period 1981-1990, and of underwater gas pipelines for the period 1970-1990.
