Retrograde amnesia from electroconvulsive therapy

Abstract Retrograde amnesia for events occurring just before electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has traditionally been interpreted as a failure of memory storage or consolidation. In a recognition memory experiment, the pattern of performance suggested that ECT may interfere with retrieval processes rather than disrupting consolidation.
