Open Inginual Hernia Repair – Lichtenstein Repair

An asymptomatic inguinal hernia may be observed. Symptomatic hernias should be repaired. There is a wide variety of techniques for repairing an inguinal hernia. When performing an open hernia repair, the standard of care involves placement of a mesh to avoid recurrence. The present chapter describes a Lichtenstein or mesh repair of an inguinal hernia.
