There is described a method of transferring a decorative portion (16) of a stamping foil (1) on a substrate (23) by means of an embossing roll (24), a die (24 ') or an applied adhesive layer (14). The stamping foil (1) comprises a carrier sheet (11) and arranged one on the carrier film (11) the transfer layer (13). The method includes providing the stamping foil (1), the punching at least one from the edge of the decorative portion (16) spaced line-shaped notch (15) in the transfer layer (13), the embossing of the decorative portion (16) to the substrate (23) and the detaching the remainder of the stamping foil bepragten with the decor section (16) substrate (25).
