Software-only testing system for protective relay based on IEC61850

Based on the IEC 61850 standard,all-digital protective relay devices replace the traditional analog,hardwired,interface with a digital communication.Traditional relay testers need to add A/D convert and communication hardware to test these all-digital protective relays,while the digital simulation software processes digital signal inherently.This paper presents a methodology for turning MATLAB/Simulink PSB into a software-only all-digital protective relay tester.A simple test model is implemented.The result shows that this software-only tester is competent for the functional testing and spot testing of all-digital protective relays.
