Biological effects of the 25Mg magnetic isotope in E. coli cells

Reliable experimental data on the influence of the magnetic moment of the 25Mg isotope nucleus on the vital functions of E. coli cells are reported. The presence of the 25Mg magnetic isotope in the medium increases the growth rate and colony-forming ability of microorganisms as compared with the 24Mg and 26Mg nonmagnetic isotopes. An intracellular enrichment in 25Mg improves the viability of the bacterial culture. The magnetic nature of the observed biological effects of the 25Mg isotope is demonstrated.
