A Study on the Psychological Characteristics of Outdoor Workers with Heatwave Experience

Most studies on heatwave disaster show limitations in analyzing the relationship between the climate and the victims’ demographic information or the affected area only to analyze the vulnerable group or the vulnerable area. Therefore, this study conducted a mixed study to identify psychological factors related to heatwave considering the experience of heatwave-related disease of outdoor workers. As the result of quantitative study using logistic regression of survey data, 30.65% of outdoor workers experienced thermal disease symptoms, and responsibility and integrity were positively affected by thermal disease symptom experience while self-esteem in the group showed the negative (-) effect. As the result of qualitative study, the study subjects placed high value on responsibility and sincerity in their life, indicating that they do the efforts as individuals in their group, and had psychological mechanism that was vulnerable to thermal disease.
