The liquid crystal alignment agent and a liquid crystal display element

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent having good aligning characteristics such that when the agent is formed into a liquid crystal alignment film, good aligning property for a liquid crystal is obtained and high pretilt angle can be produced without depending on the process conditions such as film thickness and rubbing conditions and that a liquid crystal alignment film having high reliability and short time for erasing the afterimage in a liquid crystal display device can be formed. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal aligning agent contains at least one kind of end-sealed polymer selected from a group consisting of (A) end-sealed polyamic acids having an alicyclic skeleton obtained by the reaction of (a) tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride, (b) diamine compound and (c) at least one kind of unifunctional compound selected from dicarboxylic anhydrides, monoamine compounds and monoisocyanate compounds and (B) end-sealed imidized polymers obtained by dehydrating and ring closing the above polyamic acids.
