Análisis de prácticas alternativas de aprendizaje mediadas por el modelamiento matemático en un ambiente de educación STEM

This paper shows the results of a research process based on learning practices mediated by mathematical modeling in a STEM education environment. A phenomenological methodology and a qualitative paradigm are implemented bearing in mind the engineering students’ experiences in the development of alternative learning practices, as a transformative concept of an educational practice. The population is a group of students from Fundacion Universitaria Panamericana (Unipanamericana) enrolled in the Differential Equations course at the engineering faculty 2018-II term. The research design is based on three main analysis categories: Pedagogical Threshold, Mediation and Knowledge of Interest, which allow to assess and qualify the elements of an alternative learning practice. It was found that because of the richness of working in a STEM educational environment, all is connected to what is defined as an alternative learning practice because students are the center of the educational process having mediation through modeling as an articulator of practical knowledge and, useful for the training of professionals in engineering.
