A novel maximum power point tracking control method in wind turbine application

2013
This paper presents a novel maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm for wind energy generation systems (WEGS) which considering the air density change. The novel hill climb searching (HCS) algorithm calculates the variable step size and the direction of the next perturbation by considering how far the operating point lies from the optimal curve. Owning to the climatic conditions change results in the variation of the air density, so we have to consider the modification of the value k opt . The algorithm works in two stages. In the first stage, it uses the proposed HCS algorithm track the MPP based on the precise value of k opt . In the second stage, there is an online updating of the parameter k opt once it reach the peck point .The advantages of the proposed MPPT method are that no knowledge of the WG optimal power characteristic or measurement of the wind speed is required and the WG operates at a variable speed. The validity and performance of the proposed technique are confirmed by MATLAB simulations.
