Photosynthetic Characters of Different Generations of Virus-free Potato

Seasonal and daily changes in photosynthetic rate of cv.Favorita at various generations of virus-free potatoes were studied.Potatoes at various generations showed similar pattern for seasonal and daily changes in the photosynthetic rate,however potato plants grown from ware potatoes had lower photosynthetic rate compared with the potato plants from other sources,especially at the stage of tuber initiation.At 3 pm,on June 2nd of 2005,the photosynthetic rates of plant grown from pre-elite,elite,certified seeds and ware potatoes were 21.1,22.2,21.8 and 15.3 μmol CO2·m2 / s,respectively,40% lower for plants from ware potatoes compared with other sources of seeds.
