Dois romances: estudo comparado de Esaú e Jacó e Dois Irmãos

2012
The aim of this paper is to study the novels Esau and Jacob and Two brothers. Resuming the narrative in the Bible of rivalry between the twin brothers Esau and Jacob, they report the rivalry between Pedro and Paulo and Yaqub and Omar, respectively. Machado de Assis take the biblical myth to treat human contradictions in a more symbolic and abstract way. Milton Hatoum attributes the tearing and ruin of an Amazonian family to the confrontation between the two brothers. Esau and Jacob and Two brothers are novels of losses. They go through crucial moments in the history of Brazil. The great dialogue between them relates to an impasse as to which ways to take in the realm of ideias, society and politcs.
