A Comparative Study of Multi-Channel and Full-Channel Resistivity/IP Surveys for Groundwater Investigation in Malaysia

2020
Summary A comparative study was carried out at Sungai Koyan, Raub, Pahang, Malaysia for Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) Survey to locate groundwater using ABEM Model Terrameter SAS-4000 and LS1 Multi-Channel Resistivity/IP Systems and ZZ Model F-UNI-64 FlashRES-UNIVERSAL64 Full-Channel Resistivity/IP System based on their respective specifications, protocols, acquisition time, performance, data quality, quality control checks and processing methods. The acquisitions were done on surface survey using Schlumberger array for all instruments. In the case for ABEM Resistivity System only one configuration (Schlumberger array) was set up during the survey whereas in ZZ Resistivity System’s default configuration can acquire full data simultaneously utilizing all 64 electrodes plus able to combine other types of arrays including Schlumberger. The datasets acquired from these instruments are converted and processed with third party RES2DINV Resistivity Inversion Software. Preliminary results with the Schlumberger array showed encouraging similarities and those differences with ZZ array requires further examinations and verifications.
