Application of Image Processing for Detection and Recognition of Objects in Traffic Video

Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are advanced application that aims to provide variety of services with respect to transport and its management issues. It enables the users to make safer and better use of transport network. These applications provide various information and help in coordinating the traffic flow. Image processing has played a major role in ITS. The edge detection technique has a very significant role in Computer Vision. Edge detection helps in filtering out unwanted information and preserves only the important properties of the image. A comparison of various Image Edge Detection techniques is done using MATLAB 2012R and the analysis is recorded. The paper focuses on edge detection techniques such as Sobel, Canny, Prewitt, and the impact of noise on it. The Experimental results find the edges of original image, notice the quality of image with the help of PSNR, RMSE, and Correlation Coefficient. This paper also focuses on optical flow method and gaussian mixture model method used to detect moving objects and an analysis is done.
