On the basis of numerical modeling, the study of seasonal variability of the surface water circulation in quasi-homogeneous layer in the waters of the South Kuril Islands under the infl uence of atmospheric processes for the period 1927–1994 is executed. Against the general cyclonic water movement anticyclonic structures start growing in autumn, reaching its peak in early winter. Quasi-stationary regularity is identifi ed, consisting in the fact that around the IturupIsland from March to November deep cyclonic circulation is preserved. The presence of anticyclonic water motions around the islands is con rmed. The type of water exchange in all the straits of the South Kuril is presented. In April firemoval of sea water into the Pacifi c is observed in all the straits of the South Kuril.Key words: the South Kuril Islands, water circulation, hydrodynamic structures, cyclone, anticyclone, atmospheric processes.
