Antistaphylococcal Activity of Seeds of Psoralea corylifolia

The petroleum ether extract of the seeds of Psoralea corylifolia Linn. inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus , in the concentration of 10 mcg./ml. From the extract a pure compound, C 12 H 16 O, b.p. 155°/0.3 mm., has been isolated by chromatography and subsequent fractional distillation. It inhibits the growth of S. aureus in the concentration of 0.5 mcg./ml.
