The aim of this study is to examine the importance of Village Institutes in terms of teacher training for villages. These institutes, which were established on the 17th of April, 1940 by the Act of Village Institutes numbered 3803, have their own characteristics in terms of their functions and their foundation aims. Therefore, they have always kept their importance in Turkey. The study deals with the necessity of these institutes, the reasons for their establishment, their functions and place in the field of education, and the number of teachers and their qualifications who graduated from these institutes.
