Totally transumbilical single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy:a report of 10 cases

2010
Objective To evaluate the clinical feasibility and applying prospect of totally transumbilical single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Methods Ten well-selected patients underwent single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy totally through umbilicus between May 2009 and June 2009 at Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University. Results All the operations were successfully completed without conversion to conventional laparoscopic or open cholecystectomy.Average surgery time was 40.0 minutes (20~65minutes).No drainage tube was placed. No port-related or surgical complications such as bile leak or uncontrolled hemorrhage occurred postoperatively.Patients were satisfied with the therapeutic and cosmetic effects. Conclusion Single-port laparoscopic performed totally through umbilicus is technically feasible and safe when performed by skilled laparoscopic surgeons.Comparing with conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy,it's more manipulatively difficult, and it also has to be determined whether the new approach would benefit patients by clinical randomized studies.
