Special techniques for resolving aspiration problems

1998
The diagnostics of aspiration and its treatment is presently based on interdisciplinary collaboration. The experience and the quality of the team depends, in more complicated cases, if the treatment will succeed. When surgery is necessary, the decision should be taken after consultation with the team. Exchange of knowledge and careful valuation of possibilities and limits of treatments make sure that the patient is followed in the best way pre- and postsurgically. In order to preserve the resting functions, adapting the surgical procedure to the individual problem is a must in neurological cases. Some well-known techniques and some new approaches will be described.
