State of the art on bimetallic nanoparticles with core-shell structure: classification, properties, synthesis, characterization and applications

2020
In recent decades, there has been a growing interest in the manufacture, synthesis and preparation of bimetallic nanoparticles (composed of two different metallic elements). By combining two metals in these nanomaterials, their performance often exceeds the properties associated with their monometallic counterparts, and changing their components and morphologies can successfully modify their physical, electrical or chemical performance. Expanding in this way its field of application to areas such as drug administration, optics-electronics, biosensors, chemical separation, materials, biotechnology, nano-actuators, bioimaging and biotherapy. The versatility of being able to understand how to combine different metallic elements, in different proportions, at a nanometric level and in a controlled manner, constitutes a new paradigm in the engineering of nanomaterials.
