Solving fireside corrosion problems in incinerators

1992
Fireside materials problems in conventionally fired steam boilers have been reasonably well controlled for a number of years. The unexpected tube failures experienced in waste incinerators largely stem from the degradation modes or mechanisms that are specific to the levels of aggressive species, such as sulfur, chlorine, and metals. Although the problems experienced in waste incinerators appears to be specific to each unit, by application of understanding gained from a range of sources including failure analyses of incinerator tubes, a logical approach to managing such problems can be developed
