Optimization of EDM Process Parameters for Machining of Steel

Tool steel (H13) is used to make different components for industries such as nuclear, tool and die making, aerospace and biomedical. It possesses excellent hardness, strength and chemical stability. Economical machining of such materials is challenging with traditional machining processes. This research paper presents the optimization of quality parameter for EDM of steel H13 by Taguchi approach. Total eighteen experiments are performed on work using EDM with copper tool. Optimum level of process parameters for material removal rate is electrothickness (6.2 mm), discharge current (5 A) and spark time (200 μs).
