Chest pain incidence as a dominant symptom in emergency calls Zrenjanin

2007
The calls put through to EMS, Zrenjanin were analyzed in the period of 1/10 -31/12/2006. The goal of the same analysis was to establish the number of patients calling for the reason of chest pain, taken out of the total number of calls referred to EMS. It was analyzed whether the same pain originated from ischemic or non-ischemic nature or, otherwise it originated as a side symptom in some other disorders. Concerning the very work, the protocol of the EMS team was used together with other medical documentation of the patients being later treated. 286 patients were registered in this period complaining about the chest pain. With 273 or 33,05% patients complained about the pain of the cardiac origin. Among other diagnoses, the respiratory system disorders were registered, (25,78%), patients were registered with digestive system disorders (17,67%), and eventually the number of patients with the muscle-marrow system (23.48%). These data do not correspond to data from other parts of our country nor with reference data where the percentage of the cardiac pain origin is 60% and more in the total number of the patients requiring help due to chest pain. It is noticeable that the incident of chest pain is of pulmonary origin when referring to our sample. The reasons for hereinabove mentioned conclusions might be: a low level of education among inhabitants, prevailing number of elderly people with a numerous comorbidities and a number of people suffering from HOBP in the Municipality of Zrenjanin. .
