Les résidences sociales, une offre nouvelle de logements temporaires : enjeux et contradictions

2003
Social residences represent a new kind of housing supply made up with new buildings but also with previous young workers and migrants workers housing structures. This part of housing supply is aimed at responding to different needs in so far its population is composed by young people (working or not), students, migrant workers, lonely women and men, monoparental families, unemployed people, previous homeless people, drug addicts, asylum seekers, and people coming out from psychiatric hospitals...This kind of housing supply emerged as an offset to the failure of both the common law supply and housing insertion devices in responding to these different housing needs. Actors involvement also appeared as being a major element in setting up a social residence. Then social residences had to define their identity through a social project and running conditions. Still, means spared into social residences are weak and depend on local communities interest in the underprivileged housing issue. In these conditions, one can raise the question of the perpetuation of this kind of housing supply
