Review and state of sugar analysis by high performance liquid chromatography

1992
For more than 15 years, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has been the method of choice for the analysis of sugars. However, increased demands on selectivity, rapidity of separation and detection sensitivity, encourage continued development of new techniques. A critical review of the methodologies is presented, starting with sample preparation. Then, chromatographic systems are evaluated according to their performance and stability. The main retention mechanisms are also described. The great diversity of mobile and stationary phases used accounts for the versatility of HPLC
