Comparing diverse arrangements of rows of blast wave fences by criterion of mitigation percent

2022
Due to the rise of terrorist attacks’ threats, researches are looking for robust blast waves mitigation fences. Among the strategies followed, one strategy is to use the mitigation barrier systems placed in front of structures. These systems are employed to attenuate the generated blast waves aiming to decrease its effects on the targeted structures. A fence type blast wave barrier is found to be useful barriers based on wave interference. In this research, four blast waves steel fences’ systems are proposed with different arrangements of rows and examined through numerical simulations to investigate and compare its relative performance in protecting targeted structures. The height of the systems’ steel angles and the total weight of each system are maintained constant. The criterion of mitigation percent mathematical method is used to compare the rows’ systems. The parametric studies revealed that the use of any of the proposed systems leads to remarkable decreases in the peak point overpressure and impulse. Also, increasing the number of staggered rows of barriers leads to more protection achieved by the reason of decreasing the projected distance in front of the path of the wave propagation.
