The invention relates to a resistance type vertical axis wind turbine which comprises a wind turbine host machine, a vertical axis and a blade, wherein the blade is composed of a convex surface, a concave surface, an upper bottom surface and a lower bottom surface; the cross section of the convex surface is a semi-ellipse cambered surface; the cross section of the concave surface is a semi-circle cambered surface; the bending direction of the convex surface is the same as that of the concave surface, and the diameter of the semi-circle cambered surface of the concave surface is equal to the short shaft length of the semi-ellipse cambered surface of the convex surface; two side edges of the convex surface and the concave surface are respectively connected in a seal mode; and two ends of the convex surface and the concave surface are respectively sealed through the half-moon-shaped upper bottom surface and the half-moon-shaped lower bottom surface which are equal in size, thus an inner cavity is formed; and the side edges of the blades are fixedly connected with a vertical wind turbine rotary shaft. The resistance type vertical axis wind turbine provided by the invention has the advantages that the concave surface of each blade of the resistance type vertical axis wind turbine is semi-circular, the resistance factor is maximum, and can reach 2.3; and the resistance of wind borne by the convex surface is the reverse resistance of the rotation of the blades, the convex surface of the wind turbine blades provided by the invention is semi-ellipse, and the resistance factor is only 0.6, thus the wind power utilization factor is high.
