Laparoscopic Approach to Intestinal Atresia

2017
Intestinal atresia is a common cause of neonatal intestinal obstruction. Laparoscopic-assisted repair is a favorable approach given the ease with which the small bowel may be externalized; it offers several benefits compared to the traditional laparotomy including decreased pain, smaller incisions, and quicker recovery. This chapter gives an overview of intestinal atresia and outlines the preoperative evaluation, operative techniques, postoperative management, and outcomes of laparoscopic-assisted repair.
