Fracture surfaces of TI-6AL-4 v specimens under quasi-static loading in inert and aggressive environments

2019
Abstract Due to its remarkable strength-to-weight ratio, the bimodal Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy is widespread in high performance engineering sectors. Its good corrosion resistance is due to a surface oxide, which however can be damaged under cyclic loading and in harsh environments. This paper aims to clarify the fracture behavior of some specimens quasi-statically tested in inert and aggressive environments from a phenomenological point of view, by means of the macroscopic analysis of the fracture surfaces. The effect of different notches was investigated.
