Continued advances in metals resistant catalysts

1984
Research over the last five years directed at producing truly metals resistant catalysts has resulted in a progression of catalyst improvements. First came the BMZ series, which successfully reduced catalytic coke and light gas production. Secondly came the BMZ Century series, which maintained the low coke selectivity of BMZ while improving the resistance to vanadium deactivation and improving bottoms cracking capability. As with the BMZ series, the BMZ Century series has also been proven in successful commercial operations. Now comes the third in the series of BMZ type catalysts, the BMZ-X series. This catalyst, for the first time, combines effective protection against both nickel and vanadium attack. The BMZ concept provides an extremely flexible basis for catalyst formulation. It is anticipated the future BMZ type catalysts will be formulated which will provide even further advances in catalyst metals resistance.
