Application of disposable blood transfusion apparatus instead of traditional eyewash equipment

Objective To explore the clinical effect of using disposable blood transfusion apparatus as eyewash equipment. Methods The clinical effect of eyewash equipment that changed from disposable blood transfusion apparatus was compared with that of traditional eyewash equipment. Results Compared with the traditional eyewash equipment, the time of eye wash was decreased from five minutes to two minutes; the number of nurses responsible for washing every day was reduced from four to two; incidence rate of complications related to bacterial endophthalmitis was reduced from 0.10‰ to 0.05 ‰; error rate was dropped from 0.130‰ to 0.024‰; complaint rate was reduced from 0.087‰ to 0.012‰ (P<0.05) . Conclusions Application of disposable blood transfusion apparatus in eye washing is effect and safe, it can reduce the incidence of complications and improve the satisfaction of patients and medical staff.
