The open bite is a malocclusion that compromises the aesthetic-functional and that involves several etiological factors. The treatment considers different approaches depending upon its classification and severity. The treatment of the bite in adult patients presents limitations and the therapeutics can be the surgical. It is necessary to differentiate the dental and the skeletal anterior open bite, both with distinct etiologies and characteristics, to establish adequate orthodontic treatment. In this article, the objective is to revise the literature and to present different approaches for its treatment.
