Research on knowledge-attitude-practice status of nurses about patients' participation in medication safety

Objective To investigate the knowledge-attitude-practice(KAP) status of nurses about patients' participation in medication safety and analyze its' related factors so as to provide references to promote the patients' participation in medication safety.Methods During July to September 2010,a total of 205 nurses in the cardiology department,respiratory department and gastroenterology department in four 3A-level hospitals were recruited.A self-designed questionnaire was adopted and cluster sampling method was employed.Results The mean score of knowledge was(3.74±0.51),the difference in different departments was statistically significant.The mean score of attitude was(3.84±0.82) and was positively correlated with their knowledge.The mean score of practice was(3.60±0.63) and was positively correlated with their knowledge and attitude.Conclusion The knowledge-attitude-practice(KAP) level of nurses with patients participation in medication safety is in the middle to upper level.In order to enhance the practice of nurses about patients' participation in medication safety,it is necessary to improve their knowledge and attitude,and the departments' atmosphere of patients' participation in medication safety must also be encouraged and supported.
