Detection of Toxic Heavy Metals in Algae Solution UsingLaser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy

2013
We report on our research on the classification of algal strains employng laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). LIBS device was utilized for real-time and in-vivo measurements of algae suspensions. Analysisi was done utilizing the lab-made LIBS system for direct measurement of liquid samples. Laser-induced spectrum gives information about the overall chemical composition of the sample. Variations in the concentrations of matrix elements (elements of biological significance Ca, K, Na, Mg) were used for discrimination of different atgal strains. Chemometrical algorithm, principal component analysis (PCA), was employed for differentiation of alfae based on their spectra.
