Translation played a crucial role in the transfer of knowledge accross cultures, nations, and languages. In conveying the original tone and intent of a message from one language by taking account the cultural and language differences in target language, the translation become a complex task. Thus, for years some approaches were proposed to understand the process of translation. Domestication translation and foreignization translation are two terms in translation studies formulated by Lawrence Venuti. The first is refers to the translation strategy in which a transparent and fluent style is adopted in order to minimize the strangeness of the foreign text for target language (TL) reader. The second brings the foreign culture closer to that of the readers. In practice, the translator adhered to the both. Domestication and foreignization is an ideological one as the ethical choice for translators to make. This article suggests a quick overview of translation ideology, and how this theory contribute to increase the awareness of translation regarding their choice on their work.
