A process for the preparation of aqueous suspensions of noble metal nanoparticles

The present disclosure relates to methods for the preparation of stable suspensions of noble metal nanoparticles and method of binding biomolecules to the nanoparticles. The preparation of the nanoparticles can be made either by chemical synthesis or by pulsed laser ablation in a liquid. The present disclosure demonstrates the importance of controlling the conductivity of the dispersion medium during the pulsed laser ablation in a liquid in order to control the particle size of the nanoparticles. The present disclosure also shows the importance of setting and maintaining the conductivity in a range of 25 S / cm or less, during storage of the nanoparticles and directly before performing the bioconjugation reactions. Controlling conductivity is an important method for preserving of the nanoparticles as a stable non-aggregated colloidal suspension in a dispersion medium.
