Rna corresponding to lymphadenopathy-associated virus(lav) genome, obtainable from reverse transcription of cloned dna hybridizable with genomic rna of lav

1994
PURPOSE: To obtain a new RNA useful for e.g. detecting LAV virus as a causal agent of AIDS or associated viruses thereof. CONSTITUTION: This new RNA which is an RNA corresponding to LAV genome, is obtained by reverse transcription of a cloned DNA containing a DNA insert (e.g. LAV13) corresponding to LAV retrovirus genome contained in λJ19 (CNCM- I-338) or in part thereof (or by resynthesis from the cloned DNA). The above DNA insert is hybridizable with the genomic RNA of LAV viruses under non- stringent conditions, but no cross-hybridizable with the RNA of HTLV-I and HTLV-II retroviruses in a dot-hybridization assay where the hybridization and washing are performed under such a low-stringent condition as to be at a temperature of 37°C in 20% formamide, 5XSSC, 1XDenhardts solution, or 10% dextran sulfate.
