Application of Farm Yard Manure for Raising Seedlings of Prosopis cinerea in Entisols

2013
Prosopis cinerea (Leguminasae) is a hardy tree species and mostly grown in arid and semi arid zones. In Chhattisgarh semiarid conditions appear in Entisols just after the rainy seasons. A nursery trial was conducted using Entisols supplemented by FYM in different ratio viz; 0 (T 1 ), 25 (T 2 ), 33 (T 3 ), 50 (T 4 ), 67 (T 5 ), 75 (T 6 ) and 100 per cent (T 7 ). The emergence of seedling was 64.3 per cent in T 1 , T 5 and T 6 while 57.1 per cent in T 2 , T 3 and T 4 with minimum in T 7 (42.9%). Survivorship of seedling was ranged 81.3 to 88.9 per cent. The growth in shoot, root length and dry matter accumulation was highest in T 7 (Pure FYM) followed by T 6 (75% FYM) with decreasing trend as share of FYM get decreased till T 1 (Pure soil). The observations were found statistically insignificant between T 1 to T 5 and T 5 to T 7 . The positive correlation among soil and plant parameters showed that availability of nitrogen in soil played very significant role for growth of stem, leaves and roots, while availability of phosphorus promote growth in stem and roots only. There was strong negative relationship between organic carbon and emergence of seedlings, resulted the least emergence in T 7 (42.9 %) due to toxicity causes by organic matters. Thus over all the application of FYM particularly in the ratio of 1:2 and 1:3 with Entisols in treatment T 5 and T 6 respectively were found better for raising the seedling and plants of Prosopis cinerea .
