Comparison of BVDV and SFV Used as Models for Hepatitis C Virus in Virus Validation Studies

It has been shown that plasma-derived products transmitted viruses in the past, even when the starting material was controlled for viral contamination in accordance with the state-of-the-art procedure [1]. This indicates that donor selection and control of source material is insufficient to ensure the viral safety of plasma- derived products. The manufacturing process itself plays a central role in making the products as safe as possible.
