Immunological investigation of hypogammaglobulinemia

1999
: Immunoglobulin deficiency syndromes should be considered in patients with recurrent respiratory tract infections or in patients with infections caused by agents of low virulence. We present two patients with a clinical history of recurrent respiratory tract infections. Both patients had a humoral immunodeficiency characterised as common variable immunodeficiency (CVID). We give a brief survey of CVID with emphasis on the immunological investigation of hypogamma-globulinaemia. Analysis of serum, immunoglobulins should be performed in patients with recurrent infections Patients with humoral immuno-deficiency often have false negative serology for infectious agents despite obvious infections.
